DIY MAXI DRESS WITH BELL SLEEVES USING MCCALL #M7834.

Salam lovelies! In today's post I am giving you all the deets on this Maxi dress. You might recognize the fabric from my DIY blouse found HERE. I love the fabric so much I decided to buy the last few yards from JOANN and use it to make this dress. Unfortunately the fabric is sold out but I found a similar option from Fabric.com HERE & HERE

The pattern used is McCall’s 7834 and I’ve had this pattern in my collection for a while now. It features several style options with collar, sleeves and skirt variations. I decided to make view C and was ready to make the pattern as it is. However, the tiered skirt portions require a lot of fabric which, unfortunately I didn’t have enough for. So I took the skirt front and back pieces and lengthened them to a maxi. Not exactly what I wanted but it did the trick. I also opted to make a hidden button placket instead of the exposed version drafted for the pattern. I feel this gives the dress a more polished look. For the bell sleeves I took the original pattern and used the slash and spread method to add the extra volume I wanted.

Let’s talk more about this pattern for a moment. When I find a pattern that's hijab friendly I have to shout it from the rooftops. I highly recommend picking up this pattern; it's worth it for the style variations alone. I cut the size 18 and the fit was superb. I didn’t have to cut a size up to get the modest fit that I wanted and I still had 2-3 inches ease in the waist and bust.

GET THE LOOK

I love how the dress came out and can see it transition easily into spring. Here I am styling it for a casual fall/winter look with my wool coat from Zara, bag from H&M and white pumps from Macys.

Thank you so much for stopping by. Let me know in the comments below if you have made this pattern or will you be making it soon?
