I pray you are all well and enjoying your summer break. So, this summer I decided to go back to my home sweet home, London, and boy was it hot there this summer. The heat was ranging from 78-92 °F and stayed like this for a month and half. Having grown up in London, I have never experienced heat like this before and this is coming from someone who always looks forward to London summers to escape the crazy temperatures we have here in the USA. However, there was no escaping it for me this time. I went from the frying pan into the fire (lol ok, maybe I exaggerate just little). Since London is not used to these extreme temperatures, it was inadequately prepared for it. We often times had to endure the heat without an AC even in the most frequented public places such as train stations! The heat really got me to me and I had to find ways to keep myself cool while still looking trendy while out and about. Below you will find my five go-to summer staples I couldn’t live without.
Open abayas are the first thing I reach for when spring and summer come around. Let’s face it, they are made for the hot summer days. I practically lived in mine while in London. Invest in a quality piece made from light, airy and breathable fabrics such a lightweight linen, cotton or crepe chiffon/georgette. Also, don’t be afraid to experiment with prints and colorful abayas, you can always tone it down by adding a neutral scarf or slip.
Sleeveless Maxi Slips.
Sometimes I felt like going bare under my kimono because of how hot it was, lol. But modesty is important to me so I did the next best thing and made myself sleeveless maxi slips. I absolutely love pairing my open abaya with these slips; they were are so easy to slip on and off. I am already thinking about next year and making it in every neutral shade and floral print possible.
During the summer season comfort and style is key for me and this all starts with my choice of footwear. A pair of slides has to be my ultimate footwear staple as they are easy to slip on and off without any hassle or fuss. The selection of slides available on the high street this year was impressive. Sometimes slides are more about comfort than style but with this summer’s available selection, there was no need to sacrifice one for the other. Take a look at the selection I found above in Next and at great prices too.
Caudalie Beauty Elixir/mist
I first heard about this beauty elixir from one of my favorite bloggers who suggested it as a go-to essential to take traveling. While shopping in Sephora before leaving for London, I found it on sale and decided to give it a try. I absolutely feel in love with it. The smell is divine and is so unbelievably refreshing. During the heat wave in London I took it everywhere with me. I kept spritzing it all over my face like a crazy person. It gave such instance burst of refreshment and left my skin with a lovely glow.
Basket bags are my favorite summer trend. They were tending last year and I am so glad it came back this year. They’re the perfect accessory to add, which will bring your outfit together effortlessly.
I know I said five but I am adding one more staple for good measure. No summer outfit is complete without a nice pair of sunglasses. They’re a chic and elegant must-have accessory for your summer wardrobe. You can invest in an expensive brand that can last many summers or buy a gorgeous pair right off the high street which doesn’t have to break the bank. I am particularly loving the white rimmed glasses that are trending right now.
