White Blouse & Pants Set: Simplicity #8920 & #9114

Today’s blog post is all about this stunning white blouse and pants set. On Instagram I recently Spoke about how I thought white didn’t suit me in the past. I’ve come to realize that this was a limiting belief I had. I don’t know exactly where it came from, but it has kept me stuck and only gravitating towards certain colors. Over the years my style has evolved and I am so happy I am finally incorporating colors I wouldn’t normally wear into my wardrobe. This white coordinated set was the perfect place to start. This set is a classic piece you can mix and match with just about anything.

I used Mimi G Style Simplicity 9114  for the pants and Simplicity 8920 for the blouse. When you find a perfect pant pattern that fits like a glove, you make it your TNT (tried and tested) and keep it safe. If you’re a curvy girl, these are the pant patterns for you. They’re so flattering and I didn’t need to make any adjustments to it at all.

When I first saw the simplicity blouse pattern I must admit I didn’t give much thought, but I bought it anyway.  And I am so glad I did, this is an example of a pattern gem you don’t know you have until you try it. The pattern envelope doesn’t do it much justice at all. I love the high boat neckline and boxy cut of the blouse. If your style is modest, this is a blouse pattern you need to run and add to your repertoire.

For the fabric I decided to use is this lush off white crepe from Moodfabrics. It’s beautiful and drapes like a dream. The only downside is that it’s see through, so you would need to line it or wear a slip underneath your garment.  The fabric was perfect for the blouse.  However, I wouldn’t recommend using it to make pants. I ran into some issues while making my pants with this fabric. It’s extremely slippery and because of that my pants front pieces were cut too big and I ended up having to add extra pleats to the front, so it could fit into my waistband. Don’t be like me and stick to the recommended fabrics,  such as linen, twill, cotton blend or challis.

I cut a size 20 for the pants but next time I'm going to cut a size 24 for an even looser fit. For the blouse I cut a size 20 and it was perfect. I didn’t make any adjustments to the pants but for the blouse I added 10 inches to the sleeve length so the cuffs would hit right at my wrist.

The look.

I’ve paired the look with my olive trench coat I made HERE, ballets from Nordstrom and black chiffon from haute hijab.

Thank you so much for stopping by, please do let me know your thoughts below. Will you be making the blouse, pants or both?.

Also do me a favor if you like this blog post please share. I would really appreciate that.
