DIY WRAP DRESS USING MCCALL #8036

OK before we delve into this make, I have some exciting news:  I have been chosen to be a part of The Mood Sewing Network (MSN)!  I’ve been a fan of this store for many years and I am so honored to be collaborating with them.  Mood Fabric is a designer fabric store based in NYC and LA that has featured as the fabric home of the hit show that we all love, Project Runway.

When I lived closer to NYC, I would often stop by the Mood Fabric store.  I really miss being able to shop their fabric in person and wish I had taken more advantage of their proximity when I lived in New Jersey.  Fortunately, my online shopping experience with them has been a pleasure. They provide detailed fabric descriptions along with excellent picture quality that reflects the quality of the fabric they deliver.  I am also happy to see that they have video clips of Mood exclusive fabric, enabling you to easily determine how a fabric looks in motion.

To celebrate this exciting news, I am giving away a $50 gift card, which Mood Fabric has been kind enough to sponsor to one of my followers.  To enter:

1)    Follow @mayadecollection on Instagram

2)    Comment on my Instagram post referencing this blog post.

3)    Tag two friends.

This giveaway is open to anyone, anywhere around the world.  The winner will be chosen Thursday, July 30that 12pm EST.   I am looking forward to your entries.

Now for this gorgeous make I am wearing. I actually bought this fabric before becoming part of  MSN.  It is the Mood Fabric exclusive Botanical print, a cotton sateen, which initially I wasn’t much of a fan;  I considered it too heavy and not suitable for apparel wear.  Just to be sure though, I still proceeded to purchase a sample and was pleasantly surprised to find that its weight was actually perfect.   It’s wasn’t too heavy or light and drapes beautifully on the body. If you want to see more of my thoughts on this fabric, I have a mood fabric haul on my YouTube channel here.

For the pattern I used Mccalls M8036.  It’s an excellent pattern which I have now added to my tried and tested.  So yes, I will be revisiting it again inshaa Allah.  I changed the sleeves and increased the length of the dress from a midi to maxi length.  For the exaggerated puff sleeves, I used the slash and spread method to get the volume I wanted. I also added 4 inches to the sleeve length.

STYLED IT

I Loved styling this with my yellow flats from zara (sold out), bamboo bag from amazon and Chiffon hijab in graphite from haute hijab.

Thank you so much for reading.  Until next time.
