OLIVE TRENCH COAT: SIMPLICITY #8554
Salam lovelies. I pray you’re all well and enjoying this glorious spring weather. I am so excited to share my latest DIY blog post with you all, the olive trench coat. Yes, it’s another trench coat lol, you can find the first one I made HERE. It’s no secret that I am obsessed with trench coats; they’re really the perfect transitional pieces. You can go from winter to spring and from summer to fall effortlessly.
PATTERN SIMPLICITY 8554
For the pattern I used Simplicity 8554. I chose this pattern because I wanted an oversized feel to my trench and wanted it to look almost like an abaya/ trench coat hybrid. The pattern is loose fitting and was perfect for the look I was going for. But if you want a more fitted coat go down a size as the pattern does run big. The instructions were really easy to follow and as far coat making goes this is an easy pattern.
FABRIC
I purchased a gorgeous olive/beige suiting from Moodfabrics to make my coat. Unfortunately the fabric is sold but just search olive suiting on Moodfabrics.com and something similar should come up. The quality is amazing and it has the perfect amount of weight I wanted for a trench coat.
SIZE/ADJUSTMENT.
I cut size 18. This is a size down from what I usually go for and made view B with a few adjustments. I wanted an oversized collar so I added 1 inches to the under and upper collar width and tapped it down to nothing at the sides. I added 20 inches to the length to make it a maxi and only added an overlay to the left side of the coat. I also omitted the sleeve ties and tabs. I finished off my pocket seams with brown bias binding the rest of the seams were serge.
I am planning on making another trench coat in denim. However, I won’t be using this pattern.
