Introducing The Lily Shirted Kimono
This is one of my favorite dresses from the new collection for two reasons. First, if you haven’t noticed by now, I love a good floral print. However, sometimes I feel it is hard to come across a floral print with a dark background like the one used for Lily. Most floral printed fabrics are naturally on a lighter background such as white or cream which can be overwhelming sometimes.
Finding the perfect floral print was essential for me and this fabric did not disappoint. I especially love the subtle pink, red and yellow tones throughout the print. I feel dark floral prints are easier to wear and less fussy when it comes to styling.
Second, the dress was intentionally made to combine all the things I love about a shirt dress and kimono. The slim sleeves with rolled cuffs and the mandarin collar make it a smart casual wear. The drawstring and open kimono feature make it easy to throw on and style with a maxi slip dress or rolled up jeans and knee length tunic.
OK, let’s talk a little more about the details on the dress. I incorporated Gathers to the shoulder line and to the back yoke. Gathers and pleats are my favorite details to add to any design I love the instant feminine touch it adds. Although there are no buttons, I have added a hidden button placket for extra detail. I have also added pockets, a win-win for comfort, practicality and style, and finally the rolled cuffs with a functional golden button tab because who doesn’t love a little gold dust sprinkled in their life.
This dress is such an easy transitional piece. During winter, I can pair it with shin high boots and in the spring a gorgeous pair flats or heels. I can also imagine wearing it on vacation somewhere hot with white sand and clear blue sea, I can hear the Caribbean seas calling me now, lol! Where would you wear Lily to?
