DIY TWEED TOTE

Alhamdullilah, I am happy I got around to making this tote bag. Why didn’t anyone tell me  bag making could be so much fun?! It was also nice making something other than clothing for once. The construction process threw me off a little and I made a few mistakes along the way but I think it came out well. Below you will see a pic of me attaching the leather handles wrong. I really don’t know what  was going through my head at that moment, lol. I eventually fixed it and got back on track.

To make the bag I used a tutorial I found on the website Crafty called the Harris Tweed Tote. All the measurements and step-by-step instructions can be found on there. I used a heavyweight tweed fabric from MOODFABRICS. I love the neutral color palette of the fabric, so I won’t have trouble pairing my tote with my handmade dresses.

I decided to use leather straps for the handle because I love the way it elevates the overall look of the bag. My mum said it gives it a designer feel and I agree. The leather straps came as a kit with rivets and snaps to help attach the handles.  Being able to add some leather work to this project made me very excited.  I took a leather bag making class with NIKKY & MALLORY a few months ago that I thoroughly enjoyed!   The class and the instructor left me wanting to dive deeply into  leather crafting.

Bag making is a lot different from making clothing. I love how I didn’t have to fit myself or ask do I look good in this lol. You will definitely be seeing more bag projects in the future inshaALLAH.

Thank you so much for stopping by. Leave a comment below, what do you think of this tote? Comments and suggestions are welcome.
