MY FIRST TAILORED BLAZER USING MCCALLS #6172

Let the tailoring journey begin.

I’ve wanted to make a blazer for years. In fact, I bought the MIMI G Blazer Course seven years ago. That's exactly how long I’ve been wanting to make my own blazer. Alhamdullilah! that day finally came. Two weeks ago I decided to dig back into my archive, find the course, review it, choose my pattern and start on this blazer that has been long overdue.

In today’s blog post I am debuting my first ever handmade blazer. To say that I am so in love with it would be an understatement.  This blazer is actually a wearable muslin and was meant as a test run to practice how to make one first. It came out so much better than I expected.  It’s most definately going to be a staple in my wardrobe InshaAllah.

For the pattern I used McCall’s 6172 and this beautiful linen fabric from Fabric-Store.com. It was featured in my fabric-haul video which you can find HERE. I lined it with off white satin from Hobby Lobby. The pattern was absolutely perfect and I had no fitting issues. I cut a size 18 and the fit was amazing right out of the envelope. The only change I made was adding a sleeve vent. The instructions were pretty good too, I was pleasantly surprised about the step-by-step detail it gave on constructing a welt pockets and a notched collar.  I felt like I was getting a crash course in tailoring. I highly recommend that you get the pattern if you can but unfortunately, the pattern is Out Of Print but I am sure you can find it on ETSY or EBAY.

I am always thinking about how I can make a modest version of everything.

The original plan was to make a maxi version of this blazer.  However,  I needed to practice making a blazer first before I added the headache of adjusting a blazer pattern. Next up though, is definitely a long line blazer, inshaAllah.

STYLED IT

I’ve just styled it here with a pleated skirt from ASOS, booties from ZARA  and an off-white blouse from H&M.   Click the picture below to shop for similar looks.

Thank you so much for stopping by.  Leave me a comment below. How did I do on my first try of tailoring? Until next time, lovelies and have a great day.
